All Natural Insect & Mosquito Repellent at Gwendolyn's Gate - The First Retail Outlet To Sell Herbal Screen

Gwendolyn's Gate is the first retailer to sell this wonderful all natural insect/mosquito repellent. Just last week I was contacted by someone who had asked if we would be interested in selling their product. Of course we jumped at the opportunity realizing what a wonderful product this is and how it is safe for all ages. We are honored to be the first distributor of Herbal Screen! Please read below for the most commonly asked questions:
1. Is Herbal Screen as effective as other repellents? Yes. Herbal Screen has been thoroughly tested by an independent laboratory (Carroll-Loye Biological Research in California). The effectiveness in bite reduction was 96.5%, which can be compared to 97.8% for a leading brand DEET product. Since both product results have a standard deviation or margin of error of over 2%, that means there's no significant difference between the 2 in protection. The duration of protection was 2 hours or more for the majority of people tested. It is recommended to reapply product every 2 hours or as needed. Herbal Screen is as effective or more effective than other leading natural insect repellents on the market, and competitively priced.
2. What is 'DEET'? DEET stands for Diethyl-N-Toluamide. This chemical was developed by the US Dept. of Agriculture and is manufactured by 2 of the largest chemical corporations (US) in the world. There has been some controversy over the safety of DEET products, most notably on children. Herbal Screen products are 100% DEET free, offering a natural insect repellent solution without potentially harmful chemicals.
3. Are 'natural' repellents safe and effective? Some 'natural' repellents are safe and others are not. It is the concentration of certain plant extracts and oils which can be harmful in large quantities. Citronella is an extract of Citronella Grass and is safe to use up to about 10%. Herbal Screen products have an acceptable concentration of products to provide safe use. Herbal Screen is an effective product and has been tested thoroughly within an independent testing facility.
4. What ingredients does Herbal Screen contain? Herbal Screen is a natural insect repellent made from a combination of plant extracts. Pure essential oils of citronella, mint, cedar and/or vetiver are combined with an alcohol tincture of gavilana for multi-layered protection against a variety of biting insects. Aloe vera extract and soy oil form a base. The formula is pH buffered to maintain your skin's natural balance.
5. Do mosquitoes pass on HIV/AIDS? HIV/AIDS is not transmitted via mosquitoes. Other diseases of concern are transmitted by mosquitoes, such as West Nile Virus.
6. What insects does Herbal Screen protect you from? Herbal Screen provides effective protection against mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and no-see-'ems.
7. What is West Nile virus? West Nile virus (WNV) is a potentially serious illness. Experts believe WNV is established as a seasonal epidemic in North America that flares up in the summer and continues into the fall. The disease is transmitted through mosquitoes and can be fatal. West Nile virus emerged in the 1930s in the West Nile district of Uganda. It became established in Egypt and in 1957 caused an outbreak of encephalitis in Israel. In the early 1960s it began infecting horses in France. West Nile virus arrived in New York in 1999, probably on the wings of an infected bird. From 1999 through 2001, the virus caused 149 cases of human illness in the US There were 18 deaths. Then came 2002. The virus spread from coast to coast. There were more than 4,100 documented human cases and 284 deaths. Experts agree that West Nile virus is now a permanent part of our summers. I have always been nature's child - loving things all natural and while growing up my appreciation for our beautiful Earth has grown into a passion of doing all things possible to help maintain it's beauty and resources.
The beginning of Gwendolyn's Gate SpaTique has been quite a wonderful adventure. Deciding to carry night wear and lounge wear has been an uplifting experience and has given me a better understanding of the company's from which we order in their profound admiration for our Earth and natural resources. I am proud to be associated with such company's and being a part of Green!
Introducing "Eco-centric's" Founder and Head Designer "Laura Chambers":
Combining her love and passion for fashion, photography and the environment, eco-centric founder and head designer Laura Chambers decided to create a fashion-forward line to stand out above the rest, made entirely from 100% certified organic cotton.
Laura Chambers started her career at the early age of 13, working in retail. Always being at the forefront of fashion, she eventually moved up the corporate ladder working in top executive positions for some of the world's top fashion companies.
Laura's first mentor was her very own grandmother who was a lifelong environmentalist and it was her passion for saving the Earth that inspired Laura to eventually start her own line.
The definition of eco-centric is for one to have a focus on environmental concerns. Although in theory every educated person knows that the world is more than people, resources and a vague environment to be protected, the very fact of seeing it as one spherical air-water-land system gives it a new and different reality. Tootin' My Horn - Look At Gwendolyn's Gate Progress

Would you look at that! Isn't Gwendolyn's Gate just beautiful!
We had a great time today. Thank God for Stu, Lisa's husband. What a wonderful guy for coming in and helping with hanging objects. And this guy has great ideas too! I told Stu he should be in Retail - of course he said no. I think he really enjoys his job as a Policeman.
The date is getting closer. But, as for the May 28th we will have to postpone until June 3rd with the Grand Opening on June 6th & 7th.

The McKee Family Is In Our Thoughts And Prayers

I must ask that you all say a prayer for Kevin McKee. Kevin is Christine's (one of my partners) husband. The other night Kevin was involved in a serious car accident. He is in the hospital awaiting surgery. Although, Kevin is now alert, the surgery can be complicated and take long hours. I ask that you pray for Kevin, Christine and their daughter Sam. Also, their family members.

Ooops - Save The Date

Please note that I had the wrong dates for the celebration of our Grand Opening. The dates are Friday June 6th and June 7th. The festivities will begin on Friday the 6th from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. We will open at 10:00 am on Friday but will begin the celebration at 5:00 pm. Saturday June 7th the festivities will begin at 10:00 am and last until 5:00 pm. We can't wait and look forward to seeing you all there. And remember enter a chance to win a set of Personal Body Care that you create with the many different fragrances offered!

Gwendolyn's Gate Retail Beginning & Helpful Tips On Decorating

Well, it has begun. The other night I was at the new location with Lisa and we started painting. Yesterday we did more work and today I will finish up the final touches. We had a great time - excitement is in the air. It seems that we will be open before the scheduled Grand Opening! Once the final touches are complete we can begin moving in product and the clothing lines. Then, we can add our special touches of decorating with flowers, vines and butterflies. Of course we are applying Feng Shui and we will have water too. Now we are not sure if it will be a fountain or fish bowls with Beta or both!
Upon making the decision of moving into a retail location I consulted with my brother Chuck who is an Interior Designer and has worked in retail for over 30 years. Colors, of course are a main factor in your design and Chuck had suggested to use the colors from the label on the product "Chrysalis" - pink, white and black. Also, when choosing the color you must have a "Wow" factor. Well, the wall color we chose is Raspberry Sorbet and I can tell you this has a "Wow" factor. The color is brilliant and when people walked by and commented one word came to mind "Delicious". We are thinking of posting a sign asking "Please do not lick the walls" (tee hee)! The trim is white and black will be used for the gate behind the counter and some other areas too! Most of the display cabinets are white with glass, the chairs for the AromaCove are white metal with black seat cushions adorned with a little pink. As for the table or counter we are using for the blending of personal products will also be white with hints of nature's beautiful colors. Oh, one important note on choosing a wall color, when placing other colors against it make sure that nothing fades into it. Since the Raspberry Sorbet is the wall color and we will have clothing hanging on the wall the colors of the clothing stood out and the wall remained brilliant.
