Celebrating My Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my husband Ken. Today, we celebrate 8 years of our beautiful marriage together.
The reasons why I fell in love with Ken and married him are quite simple. He is a very loyal man who is devoted to his family, true to himself and others, kind, thoughtful, and very gentle. Ken is true to his word and willing to help others. He loves my daughter, and calls her his own, and admires our grandchildren who just adore him so. Poppy, is his name to Kenzey (3 1/2 yrs old) and Kayley (soon to be 2) in memory of his grandfather in which he loved and adored so dearly. And most of all he loves me with all his heart and is very supportive in all that I do.
Our 8th anniversary is different this year - for we are celebrating it apart. Although, this may seem sad, but when I tell you why you will understand. Just last week, Ken was temporarily layed off from work on Thursday to be exact. On that night he received a phone call from his Uncle Don about needing a new roof on his home in Hilton Head on the beach. Uncle Don had stated that he was having a hard time finding a company he felt he could trust in replacing his roof. Now mind you, Ken, many years ago did roofing for a living and replaced the roof on his Uncles house here in Illinois. Ken's response was, "You caught me just at the right time. I have been laid off work and I will see you soon". With that said he rounded up a crew of 3 (his brother and 2 nephews) and off to South Carolina they went to help his Uncle in time of need. I admire Ken for being so loyal and true helping his family in time of need. When he first told me that he was going, there was a fleeting moment when I was sad realizing that he would not be here to celebrate our aniversary. But, understanding how important it was for Ken to be there for his Uncle, I encouraged him to go and to take time to enjoy himself. If the tables were turned he, too, would understand.
So, heres to my husband Ken, who is wonderful, loyal and true! I Love You and can't wait to see you!

Happy Birthday Kathy

This weekend my girlfriend Kathy, that I have known for 43 years turned 50 and what a great time we had.
Maureen, Kathy's sister had a surprise 50th for her and Kathy had know idea - even when she came home with her boyfriend and saw all the cars in the drive. Her response to that was Mike, her boyfriend, should talk to his neighbors and find out why so many cars were in their drive! Love Ya Kath!
Other than being able to celebrate this wonderful occasion with Kathy, I also got to see all her siblings. Now this is a big Irish family - here's all of their names Mike, Kathy, Mary, Colleen, Patrick, Maureen, Ann, and Sean. We lived on the same block - across the street from one another and oh, the memories came back. We talked about all the crazy things we use to do and of course all the fun we always had.
In Chicago, where we grew up, we lived on the best block - so many families with so many children. The days were always eventful from the plays and dances we (Kath & myself) would, shall I say produce and invite our family and friends to the kick baseball and touch football games when all the parents would attend to watch their kids play.
In all the excitement last night we decided to have another Edison Park Gang get together. If any of you are reading this please contact me by leaving a message here on the blog so that we can begin the planning for the reunion.
This weekend, by far, was the best I had in a long time. Cheer's to my long time friends and I can't wait to get together again!

Benefits Of Peppermint Essential Oil

What brings me to write about peppermint is the other day my allergies were in full swing. I felt absolutely terrible from the runny nose, watery eyes to the exhaustion allergies can cause. By the time I took my medication it was too late. Although, the symptoms subsided the affects were still there - especially the exhaustion.
My work day was booked with the production of 307 Peppermint Foot Scrubs to be delivered on April 15th. This was a God send - because I use pure essential oil of peppermint in my scrub my energy returned and the runny nose and watery eyes subsided. I was energized, production went well, and the tasks were met for the day. Because of how the peppermint essential oil affected me, I would like to share with you some of the history behind the peppermint plant with all that it has to offer.
Peppermint is sometimes known to be the world's oldest medicine. There is archaeological evidence dating this plant as far back as 10,000 years. Peppermint flowers are large nectar producers and honey bees as well as other nectar harvesting organisms forage them heavily. The uses of peppermint are plentiful. You will find peppermint in cosmetics, toiletries, pharmaceuticals, culinary delights, topical agents, and is taken internally.
Some of the properties in peppermint are as follows: antibiotic, antidepressant, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, astringent, stomachic, antispasmodic, sedative, antiseptic, digestive, expectorant, stimulant, tonic (nerve), and vasoconstrictor to name a few.
The benefits of this wonderful plant are also incredible and may be used in many different ways. Such as an inhalant, topical applications, taken internally, added to a bath or lotions and oils to help relax and act as an anti-inflammatory for muscles, a great ingredient for soaps, and may be added to many foods as a flavoring agent. Here are some of the ailments that peppermint will help alleviate: acne, bronchitis, clears the sinuses, colds, coughs, dermatitis, eczema, flatulence, indigestion and irritated colon, mouth or gum infections, muscular pain, mental fatigue, headache, migraine, motion sickness, hysteria, insect bites, and poor circulation. As you can see there are many ways in which peppermint may be used. Also, a recent report from Italy has shown that patients who took peppermint oil capsules for 4 weeks had a major reduction in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms.
Another interesting fact about peppermint oil is that it is an "all-natural way" to deter ants from being inside and outside your home. Just apply to desired areas in sparse amounts until the ants are discouraged from returning. Please note that the application will have to be reapplied every few days.
To grow peppermint it is best to do so in a container - it expands quickly by underground rhizomes. Plant in part-sun to shade areas and needs a good water supply.
As you can see, peppermint essential oil and the plant should be in every home and garden. A beautiful way to enhance your well being.

French Green Clay - The Many Benefits

French Green Clay is by far the most luxurious and effective mineral skin clays used throughout the world. Because of the high mineral content this clay may be used for treating acne, skin disorders, assist in reducing pores and the signs of age/sun spots. For the mature skin it has a beautiful anti-aging effect due to the rich minerals increasing circulation to the connective tissues while enabling oxygen to speed the elimination of impurities in your skin. It may be used to balance combination skin, normalize oily skin, and revitalize dry skin. The clay also has antiseptic and healing properties, and an emollient which leaves the skin silky smooth. Wow, can you think of a better clay or way to help keep your skin looking beautiful?
It is quite easy to use French Green Clay as a mask - simply add water to create a paste, apply to your skin and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and apply you favorite moisturizer. You will be amazed at the beautiful results - which are immediate. Please note that you may add other natural ingredients to enhance the many benefits of the French Green Clay.
To identify this clay make sure that it is green or off green in color. French Green Clay is as stated "Green"!

Home Shows - A Great Way To Promote Your Product

As part of my marketing strategy for 2008, I decided to implement Home Shows into my plan. The reason in doing so was not only to increase the recognition of Chrysalis Skin Care but, I also realized that when it comes to your skin it is unlikely that someone would purchase my product (from the web site) without personally being referred or experiencing the results. Although, I do have testimonials on my web site, I want to reach as many woman as possible and let them experience Chrysalis for themselves.
Yesterday, for the first time, I was involved in a Home Show and the results were great. One of reasons why is that the 2 woman, Lisa and Cindy, who hosted the show use my product and they themselves were a live testament as to how Chrysalis can work for you. The first woman who walked up to my table was sold instantly on the product after listening to Lisa and Cindy, sampling the product and noticing the immediate results. From then on everything went well. The product sold and I now have other shows booked. Also, those who bought wanted to know if I had a web site to reorder - this too is extremely important to have.
Keep in mind that having a marketing plan is important. But, you must have a target group in which you want to reach. Mine is the mature woman. I created Chrysalis specifically to help reduce the signs of aging and to keep your skin looking beautiful and radiant making you feel beautiful and good about yourself.
I am now looking forward to promoting Chrysalis with Home Shows and can't wait to meet more woman who want to look and feel beautiful!

Thom Fleming Skin Care - Winner Of Chrysalis Peppermint Foot Scrub

Congrats to Thom Fleming Skin Care - winner of the March Madness Contest. The lucky participants have won Chrysalis Peppermint Foot Scrub to help sooth tired worn feet - refreshing both the body and mind.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Thom Fleming Skin Care. The story behind this company is quite interesting and very heart warming.
Thom Fleming, founder of Thom Fleming Skin Care, began his passion for creating natural healing products several years ago. While filming in Jordan, Thom fell in love with the Dead Sea and was intrigued by the healing properties of the elements found. Upon his return to the United States he began blending natural ingredients of fruits, oils, vitamins, and Dead Sea salt to develop a beautiful line of body scrubs. With the encouragement of a dear friend to market his product, Thom turned his passion into a business. Over the last several years Thom has manufactured a limited amount of product exclusively for his famous friends.
In 2007 Thom Fleming had passed away. To keep Thom's dream alive his parents had turned to his three best friend and asked that they continue his work. As loved one's would only do, Thom Fleming Skin Care is still thriving today carrying on the dreams of Thom and keeping his legacy alive.
As a business owner in the beauty and skin care industry I am honored to be recognized by a company with such great passion and integrity. It is heart warming to know that the loved ones of Thom are keeping his spirit and passion alive.
I highly recommend you check out Thom Fleming Skin Care by clicking on the heading above. You, too, can help keep Thom's passion alive!

Fancy Nancy's Boutique & Promoting Gwendolyn's Gate Chrysalis Skin Care

Yesterday, upon visiting Fancy Nancy to check on sales and inventory I was met with a wonderful surprise. I ran into a woman, Lisa, I have not seen in approximately 15 years. Throughout our discussion, as most women do, we talked about our age and complimented one another on our appearance. She had also asked what I was doing at the boutique. I took the opportunity to introduce my line of skin care to Lisa. She was very impressed and decided to purchase the facial care. Fancy Nancy had also mentioned that she uses the line, and 2 other women, Nancy, and Patti who were in the boutique also mentioned that they use Chrysalis. This added to the sale of my product, along with the appearance of the 2 Nancy's and Patti's skin and their testimonial as to how Chrysalis works for them.
Since we had such a wonderful time promoting Chrysalis, Fancy Nancy and myself have decided that I should make frequent visits to the boutique to assist in promoting Gwendolyn's Gate.
Beginning April 17th, I will visit Fancy Nancy's Boutique every other Thursday from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The location is 117 W. Slade St, Palatine, IL 847-202-9370.
Come and chit chat awhile, we had a great time from trying on clothes - getting opinions from other women visiting the boutique to talking about our skin care. And of course the aging process. Also, it's about Women Supporting Women! A wonderful way to meet and make new friends!
Click on the above heading to find out more about Fancy Nancy's Boutique.
Hope to see you there soon!

Cocoa Butter - Information You Should Know

Known as the ultimate moisturizer with luxurious emollient properties, cocoa butter has been used for centuries to keep skin soft and supple. It is sometimes recommended for treatment of certain skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. When applied topically it also helps to create a barrier between your skin and the elements and helps to retain moisture. {Please note that in rare cases sensitive individuals have had skin reactions to this substance.} Cocoa butter has also been used by pregnant woman to prevent and treat stretch marks. When used in lotions and oils during aromatherapy massages it helps promote feelings of relaxation and an overall sense of well-being. Cocoa butter, like chocolate, contains a lot of CMP (cocoa mass polyphenol) and research indicates that massaging the skin with cocoa butter may help relieve stress, boost the immune system, and even prevent cancer. In Japan, researchers reported that CMP inhibits the growth of cancerous cells and tumors, and there is some evidence that the CMP in cocoa butter may also help prevent heart disease and alleviate arthritic symptoms. Other research indicates that the CMP may help individuals with conditions related to an overactive immune system such as psoriasis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia by suppressing the T-cell activity.
It's amazing what this sweet aromatic butter can do for you. Another fact is that cocoa butter contains natural antioxidants that prevent rancidity and give it a long shelf live - up to 5 years. Also, because cocoa butter has a low melting point, just below body temperature, it melts when applied to the skin.
Although cocoa butter is an ingredient found in many topical preparations, you may purchase pure cocoa butter at your local health food store, pharmacy, or online distributors.
If you like to create there are plenty of recipes available online for cocoa butter applications. You will love the effects of this rich butter - from the aroma to the luxurious emollient properties.

Increase Your Recognition On The Web

Here are a few tips that I have discovered to increase your recognition on the internet. First and most important advertise your site on all print material you have from your business cards to your labels on your product. Second, create a blog. You can do this at no cost and it's fun because you can update your blog every day making it your own creation. After creating your blog join the online networks - there are many available. In doing this you can again write about yourself and business. Also, a lot of the networks allow you to "ping" your blog - posting articles that you have written. Or you may create your own blog within the online network. List in the online directories such as YellowPages, YellowBook, etc. You will be amazed at how easy this is to do and will notice an increase in visits to your web site, blog, and the recognition you will receive in joining the online networks.
Since creating my web site, blog and joining the online networks the monthly visits to my site have increased overall by 75%. Therefore, increasing my recognition on the web. Keep in mind it has only been 6 months since the inception of my web site.
I am sure that once you take the time to enlist in all that is available on the web you will be pleased with the results.
Happy Surfing!

The World Wide Web Works For You!

When I first decided to have a web site my designer told me that it would take time for my rankings to increase on the internet. Over the past 6 months I have seen the increase slowly rise. But, as of today, the traffic to my site has increased by 40% since last month. The day is not over yet and I am excited to see the results tomorrow.
There are 2 factors that I feel have contributed to this growth. One is the web site itself with the key words, and the other is the Blog I created a few months ago.
Since creating the Blog I noticed an increase in the traffic to my site but the traffic to my blog is far greater. This is also due in part to belonging to a few networks in which you can ping your blog. These are great communities to share and learn new ideas.
I wonder what is next for the web and how it can work for you?

2nd Day Of Spring In Illinois

This is the result of the winter storm in Spring. Although, we expected a lot more snow we still had at least 6-8". I have always enjoyed the beauty of a storm when the tree's are lined and the ground is covered in a fresh blanket of snow. When the sun shines on the snow it is a glistening beauty reminding me of tiny diamonds.
I think this is the last of the snow for the year. Here in Illinois, if I'm not mistaken it has been a record for snow fall. In years past, I do not recall having this much snow.
I love living in Illinois, enjoying the change of every season. I can't imagine a Winter without snow, a Spring without rain and the blooming of flowers, a Summer without the warmth of the sun, and the Fall without the color change.
Love life and embrace change!

Spring In Illinois

This is Spring in Illinois. Although, yesterday was the first day of Spring and was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 40's, this is what Mother Nature can do. This picture is outside my home office window. We are expected to get 6-10 inches of snow with the possibility of more because we live near the Wisconsin border.
They say that a new season brings upon change - well, if this isn't proof! Drastic change in weather!
Have a great Easter weekend.

1 Year Anniversary As An Indie Beauty Member

Today marks the day of my 1 year anniversary as being an Indie Beauty Network member. A decision that I am completely satisfied with and grateful for joining.
When I first started Gwendolyn's Gate back in January of 2007 I wasn't sure where the company would go and even if I wanted to devote myself full time as a business owner. Basically, turning my hobby and passion into a business. After a few months of formulating and reformulating product, designing and redesigning packaging and finally coming up with something beautiful and beneficial I decided to take that "Leap of Faith" and become a full time professional business owner. In doing so I applied for all the proper credentials through the state and county. But, one thing kept lurking in the back of my mind "Product Liability Insurance". I began my research online and discovered the Indie Beauty Network. I read all the necessary info and joined on March 19, 2007. Although, in March I was legal my product did not hit the market until June of 2007. I still needed time for testing and researching the market.
During this time I felt comfortable knowing I had PLI and never really was involved in the network until September of 2007. Well, did I waste time. The information, advice, and stories of other members is very uplifting and inspirational. In the past year I have learned so much and because of the wonderful opportunities of being an Indie member I have renewed my membership today. Kudos to Donna Maria for what she brings to being an Indie member. And Thank You for helping me be more successful!
Click on the heading above for more info on the Indie Beauty Network!

Lavender - Healing Recipes

Lavender, is another aloe vera of the plant world. A healing agent with skin conditions and as an aromatic delight.
Lavender has many uses as a stand alone ingredient or when combined with others. Just the smell of Lavender alone is so relaxing yet uplifting. Lavender is also a great plant to help keep those pesty mosquito's away!
Here are a few recipes I have discovered to help alleviate certain ailments. The blends are listed by the most to the least amount of essential oils. When applied to the skin dilute with either water or a base ingredient. Headache: lavender, peppermint, and rosemary. Use as an inhalant, apply to area(s) of discomfort, and may be added to a bath. Stress Relief: lavender, geranium, bergamot, and grapefruit. Use as an inhalant and may be added to a bath. Depression: lavender, ylang ylang, and clary sage. Use as an inhalant and may be added to a bath. Relaxing: lavender, cedarwood, neroli, and ylang ylang. Use as an inhalant and may be added to a bath.
This is one of the best recipes when it comes to healing minor abrasions and assisting in clearing up acne. This must be diluted with either water or other ingredients - do not apply directly to the skin. Skin Healing: lavender, bergamot, and eucalyptus. Apply diluted directly on area needed. This blend may be added to lotions, soap, body oils, and water. The results will be amazing.
Please note that the above recipes are not intended to treat conditions. Seek medical advice.
Have fun blending!

Aromatherapy and You!

Some of us may think that Aromatherapy has been around for a hundred years or more. But, it dates back 6000 years and has Biblical references. When I first started to study and research Aromatherapy I decided to look in the bible and there it was. There were many references to plant essences such as olive oil, frankincense and myrrh - which were great commodities at the time traded among many countries.
We can thank Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a French Chemist who brought this science into the mainstream in the 1920's and Jean Valnet who continued the work of Gattefosse. In an accident where Rene burned his arm, he placed it in a vat of lavender (the only cooling agent in his lab) to soothe the burn. Immediately he noticed a remarkable pain relief, quick healing and no scarring. After the accident in the perfume lab Rene then continued to study the healing properties of essential oils.
In the 20th century Aromatherapy became very popular in the United States and has remained in the mainstream. The art and science of Aromatherapy is now practiced extensively not only in alternative medicine but also in traditional medicine. The essential oils are used in many applications from the aromatic affects to topical healing. They are used alone, diluted or blended with other ingredients.
A beautiful healing science using God's natural resources!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today is the day when everyone is Irish!
Did you know that St.Patrick was once a pagan? But, he is one of Christianity's most popular saints and is known for driving the snakes out of Ireland.
In 1737, the holiday first became publicly observed by the Irish immigrants in the United States in Boston. The first St. Patrick's Day parade was held in New York City in 1766.
After almost 300 years, the tradition continues by wearing green, eating Irish food, listening to Celtic music and Irish folklore, and attending parades. What a great day for celebration and in Chicago it is by far the best!
There is an area in downtown Chicago called Division St. where they close down the streets, Policemen are on horseback, and the celebration begins in the wee hours of the morn'. Believe me when I say the streets are filled not only with those who are Irish but the wanna be's too! The celebration spans throughout the Chicago land area with great excitement.
Happy St. Patrick's Day & God Bless!

Time Is Money

When starting a business and trying to be as economical as possible in certain areas we could end up costing ourselves more money than realized. Remember Time Is Money! In beginning my business I designed and printed my own labels thinking that this would save me money. In all, it cost me a lot of time, not to mention the cost of ink for printers. The design took long enough then the printing and cutting of the labels.
Just recently, with the addition of new product, I decided to outsource the labels. Well, I can't tell you the time it has saved allowing me to focus on other things. Especially with the launch coming up!
The cost of printing labels is not that expensive. Do most of the work yourself such as design and laying out on the sheet size. All you have to do is send to the printer via email in pdf format and you will be amazed at how much time will be saved. Therefore saving you money.
Here is a printer you should try - Artistry in Printing http://artistryinprinting.blogspot.com/ or click on the heading above to be directed to their blog!

Having Faith When Met With Challenges

They say that Love will keep you strong but Faith is what gives you strength. Combine the 2 and the possibilities are endless. I say this, because recently myself and close family have been met with many challenges since the end of 2007. Between health and personal issues, and other unforeseen circumstances our challenges were many. Throughout this time I remained positive and kept my Faith that in time all will be well. Of course wondering when. There were times, I felt as if we were being tested with all the challenges we faced and kept thinking as the old saying goes, "God Never Gives You More Than You Can Handle". With that in mind, I still Prayed every morning and night Thanking the Lord for every new day and giving us the strength to get through our time of need. Within the past week I could see a positive change in our lives and now we are getting back to where we need to be. I am grateful for my Faith - without it I could not have gone through the past few months with the ease and calm as I did. Even though our times of struggle are beginning to diminish I still Pray and Thank the Lord everyday! Have Faith - it will give you Strength!

Thank You again for your time and support!

Menopause & Underactive Thyroid-What "Chrysalis" Can Do For You!

Recently, it has come to my attention through testimonials that "Chrysalis" skin care has alleviated a problematic symptom of both Menopause and Underactive Thyroid - severe dry skin. Please read below the testimonials I have received in regards to this issue:
I am 53 years old and have very dry skin. It has been particularly dry with the onset of menopause. The harsh winter weather has contributed to dry patches on my elbows, hands and feet, After using your body butter, and hand and foot cream, I have noticed that the patches went away. I am also a fan of the facial butter which has really protected my face from windburn and overheating in my office setting. Sincerely, Pam H., Lindenhurst, Illinois
Since going through Menopause, I also developed an Underactive Thyroid which hit me with a double whammy when it comes to my skin. Throughout the years my skin has been extremely dry and I found myself moisturizing a few times a day. I then tried Gwendolyn's Gate "Chrysalis" Skin Care and I Love It! The body butter has helped my skin tremendoulsy. Although, it goes on greasy - it absorbs quickly without the greasy feel. The Gentel Exfoliates takes the dead skin cells off and is as gentle as labeled. As my dermatologist said, "As we get older and our skin becomes thinner we should not use any harsh materials". The French Green Clay hmmm I Love it - I really do. Your skin looks refreshed, healthy and radiant. I use it as often as I can. The only draw back is that it can be messy when using. The facial butter this is amazing. Again, this goes on greasy but absorbs into your skin without the greasy look. It moisturizes beautifully. The body cream is just as good as the body butter - the moisturizing qualities are wonderful. I own a womans boutique and face the public every day and feel that it is important to look and feel your best. Since using "Chrysalis" this has given me more confidence in how I look and feel. Now I am going to carry Wendy's line. I am introducing her product in late March. Sincerely, Nancy Gust, Owner, Fancy Nancy's Boutique, Palatine, Illinois.

Thank you all for being so patient with the launch of the new products. As stated in earlier posts the launch would be mid to late February - we must choose the latter. There have been a few unforeseen obstacles causing a delay but we are now well under way.
We hope to have photos and the web site updated with all the new info within the next 2 weeks.
Since you all have been so kind and supportive and only a few know what is to come I will now share with you the products to be launched. 1. The Body Gloss will be packaged with our luxurious moisturizing Body Cream also scented with our signature fragrance. These items will come in a pink organza bag. 2. Stayed tuned for all the excitement with our launch.

New Label Introduction - Body Butter

As you may know, as stated in earlier posts, my body butter has worked wonders for those with psoriasis, eczema, severe dry skin, skin rashes, and those with an underactive thyroid (symptom-dry skin). Due to the great results and both female and male use my product I decided to make the label a little more gender friendly. Although, it is still a little elegant (in my opinion) I feel that the male population would also consider purchasing this product. I am considering adding the crystal as with my other products - this is part of my signature. Tell me what you think!

Product Packaging Can Make The Final Sale

Of course your ingredients and marketing are some of your best selling tools. But, packaging can make the final sale.
Over the years of developing product and designing labels I would always stay with a certain style. Although, my packaging was nice, I wanted something exceptional that would catch the eye.
I began my research on the web and read articles in cosmetic magazines about packaging. I also looked at the latest trends on the market. Keep in mind I also had a target group for my product - which is extrememly important when owning a business. In doing all of this I came up with a design that has been well recieved by the consumer and has reached the target group I desired. In all, my label is a reflection of my product.
Stepping out of your comfort zone can make all the difference in selling your product.

Bath Salt Recipe To Relieve Skin Irritations

I have been receiving great reviews on my bath salt. Although, I created the bath salts as a luxury it seems to be alleviating skin irritations. Those who have eczema and other skin rashes have commented on how it has soothed and reduced skin inflammation. Here is the recipe for healthy beautiful skin: 2 lbs. Sea Salt, 1 lb. Epsom Salt, 1 oz carrier oil (almond or avocado). Blend all ingredients together use approximately 1/2 cup per bath. If you would like to add fragrance use 3 oz's. of Dendritic Salt and 3/4 tblspn. of fragrance of choice. Blend these 2 items together then add to the combined ingredients above. Happy Soaking!

Getting Rid Of Clutter

One of my goals for the new year was to clear up any clutter that I have in regards to my product. Such as getting rid of old packaging that I know longer use. In doing so I have decided to go to EBay. I have been a member since Sept. 2007 and only did a few things with success. But, since clearing things out I have found so much including craft items that I know longer use and have put them on Ebay. Also, as much as I hate to admit, I did over buy on some items not realizing I had them in stock. Well, this has been absolutely incredible and at this time I have 11 items for sale with plans for more. I have also put some product on that I have discontinued not thinking that this would sell and guess what - it has! Now my husband has seen what is happening and has decided to join in on the fun. He just put his Slot Machine on Ebay - I was in shock. I think he might have done this to get another toy. You know boys and their toys. For all of those who don't know what to do with your odds and ends - try Ebay. I never thought it could be so much fun and profitable. Happy Selling!

Going Green ?

Today, Going Green seems to be in the mainstream of society. Although, I must admit that I do not know all the logistics of Going Green, I do my best in playing a role to keep our world beautiful and try to be as resourceful as possible. I am looking further into Going Green. I feel that it is important to save our earth to ensure the beauty for generations to come. I also believe in not using all the natural resources we have. Within the next year my husband Ken and myself plan on becoming more efficient in heating our home and have discussed the possibility of a windmill for electric.
As for my business, I try to be as earth friendly as possible. All of the bulk ingredients that I buy come in recyclable packaging. My product "Chrysalis" skin care also comes in recyclable packaging. I do hope that all who purchase my product will recycle.
Recently, I also heard another term, "Waste Free". I am now looking into the meaning of the term and becoming a "Waste Free Company".
Here's to our beautiful earth - preserve and nuture!

Web Site Is Not The Only Marketing Tool

Last year, when I decided to have a web site as my main marketing tool I realized that there was much more to having a site. Little did I know that it takes quite some time before you are recognized on the internet and that there are thousands of companies just like me. As suggested by my web designer Joanne Osmond of http://www.marketdrafters.com/ I should look for online directories. In doing so, I enlisted in several directories, discovered networks to join, and created a blog - all at no cost. Enlisting in all of these has allowed me to express myself both personally and professionally and has increased my exposure tremendously. I have also met other professionals with great advice. Here are some of the networks that I joined, Jumpintuit, Zimbio and PeopleJam. The directories are those of local listings such as on Yahoo, YellowPages, and Merchant Circle to name a few. Set aside some time to see whats out there and you would be amazed at the results. Happy Surfing!

INCI Ingredients - FDA Regulations

During the past year I have learned a lot when it comes to labeling cosmetic products. One is to label your product in the correct order of ingredients - highest amount to the least. This also includes fragrance and any color type added to the product. Also, to have the correct INCI name of the ingredients in compliance with the FDA. Most of the companies that you order product from will list the INCI ingredients and the FDA has a web site with guidelines for labeling of your products. Click on the heading above to be directed to the FDA site. It is important to be within the FDA guidelines not only for legalities but also for a professional appearance of your product. Happy Labeling!

When Opportunity Knocks

As stated in an earlier post regarding samples an opportunity came my way to develop another product.
A woman by the name of Sara, has a child (infant) who is allergic to nuts and has a problem finding a moisturizer without an ingredient of the nut family. When she had tried a sample of one of my new products (deep moisturizer) she had asked if she could use it on her daughter. Due to some of the ingredients I suggested not to. Sara then asked if I could create something. Well, the quest was on - I just completed the Body Moisturizer and it is simply divine. As a creator, I get to sample everything before it is packaged and sold. Believe me when I say, "It Is Simply Divine"! As with the product below this will be launched within 2 weeks. Stay tuned for more info and testimonials!

Samples - A Must Have

In the past year of business I have learned quite a lot when it comes to having samples and always being prepared to hand them out. Also, to be willing to donate product for fund raisers and other events. In doing this, I received wonderful feedback, returning customers, opportunities to place the product in the retail market (brick and mortar), and idea's to develop new product.
There have been times that I was frustrated wondering when the giving out of samples would end. Well, at this time, it won't end if you want to increase your exposure.
Have fun doing this and enjoy the opportunity to meet wonderful people!

Spinach Lovers Recipe

This is one of my favorite recipes - it's healthy, delicious, and easy to make. You will need olive oil, 1 small onion, fresh garlic to your taste (I usually use 2 cloves), 10 to 16 ounces of fresh spinach, diced tomatoes - either fresh or 1 28 ounce can, salt, pepper, fettuccine noodles, and feta cheese.
In a large frying pan saute the onion and garlic in olive oil, add the spinach, once the spinach is cooked add the tomatoes (you may add some of the juice from the can), add salt and pepper to taste, (remember tomatoes love salt). Serve over fettuccine noodles and top with feta cheese. This recipe only takes about 30 minutes and is good the next day served cold. You may also want to add chicken to this recipe for a heartier meal. Enjoy!

One Of The Best Marketing Tools

How can you promote your product if you don't "Walk Your Talk"? Being the Creator of "Chrysalis" skin care line, and knowing the results, I use the product every day and the difference in my skins appearance has been recognized. When asked, "What do you use", of course I tell them "Chrysalis" my creation. This has generated a lot of sales and of course with others using the product they too help promote "Chrysalis". Referrals or word of mouth is a great way for your product to receive the recognition it so deserves. Also, keep in mind that you, the Creator, know your product better then anyone. From the ingredients to the benefits of each ingredient with all the properties they provide for your skin. Remember you can be the best marketing tool! 2008 And We Are Ready To Roll

The beginning of the New Year is here and I have been anticipating a new beginning for Gwendolyn's Gate. The excitement and energy is in the air. If I were to put this to a song it would be, I'm Every Woman" by Whitney Houston. And I do hope she is doing well!
Today marks the first full week of the New Year and the plans for 2008 are in motion. A lot of wonderful changes are coming. New packaging is one - no need to worry the Butterfly and Crystal will still be present - oh but the paper and color will certainly catch ones eye. Of course the beautiful and luxurious ingredients will remain the same helping you achieve an overall sense of well being.
I am sad to say that a few products will no longer be carried once inventory is sold out. Look for special deals coming soon. The products are the beautiful Crystal Potpourri, Reed Diffuser, and the Gift Set of Body Oil.
The reason for the discontinued items is that I am reaching for my calling. With the amazing and verified results of my "Chrysalis" product line I am going to continue my research in skin care.
I am excited about the new beginnings and you will be too! Just wait by the end of February you will see the change. All for the better!

In God We Trust

What has brought me to this thought is a conversation I had with my brother, Chuck, yesterday. During our conversation we were talking about my product and how things were progressing. Also, as mentioned in the previous post, I told my brother how my Body Butter and Bath Salts are helping those who have psoriasis and eczema. He then said to me, Wendy, God has given you your calling as a healer and you might want to change your approach. We further discussed my past as a Massage/Aromatherapist and that healing has always played a major role in my life.
After hanging up with my brother I remembered that a couple of years ago I went through a very hard time in my life. I moved with my husband from the city of Chicago up north close to the Wisconsin border. Talk about a change. Just before we moved I was offered a wonderful job with great pay but the travel would be too much with the move and I declined. My quest was on to find myself up north and this was the onset of my struggle as to where I was at in life. Then a friend gave me a book to read called, "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren.
This is an absolutely must read book for all who need to find themselves. It is based on God and spirituality. It defines your purpose and gives you a new and different way to approach life. It will affect every aspect in your life. I trust in God - he has given me all that I have.
The book is on My Recommended list with Amazon.com you will find here on the right side of my blog. It is on the second page.
Happy Reading! Wendy Goudie

Chrysalis Skin Care Helps Relieve Psoriasis and Eczema

Before launching my line, I felt it was important to have testimonials other than my own to give the line the credibility needed when marketing. At the time of creation I felt the most important product to have testimonials was the 3 Simple Steps due to the immediate results with the age defying affects. The results were wonderful and are published on my site along with a few other testimonials. Click on the heading above to read the testimonials regarding my product.
Recently, others have given me testimonials on 2 of the products in my line, the Body Butter and Bath Salts. Although, the intent on making this product was to be used as a luxury, the results from my customers have been surprising. What has been discovered with the body butter and bath salts is that it relieves the outward symptoms of skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, and other rashes of the skin. The testimonials I have heard have been heart warming. To know that I can affect someones live in a manner that makes them feel better about themselves is more fulfilling than one could describe.
Gwendolyn's Gate is now on a new journey to take these 2 products to another level. Soon the testimonials will be listed on my web site http://www.gwendolyns-gate.com/ and a new product is born.
Stay tuned for more of Gwendolyn's great products to help you achieve an overall sense of well being.

Improving Product Liability

When saying, "Improving Product Liability" it's just not about having the insurance to cover yourself or your assets, it's also about you personally being liable for your products. Knowing that all my hard work with the research and experimenting of the ingredients I would be solely liable for the results. To increase my liability and the credibility of my new product line "Chrysalis" I decided to have as many people sample my product before launching it to the public. In doing so I received positive and negative feedback in which I took all under consideration and applied what needed to be changed. Criticism can be hard to take. But, when necessary we must take it in stride and realize that it is not personal it's about growth and understanding what the public wants.
During this process I developed a few relationships in which I trust their opinion and advice. I then decided to enlist these individuals on what I call my "Test Panel". With each person I enlisted they all have different personalities, great characteristics, strong believes, and a certain area of expertise in their career which allows me to trust in their advice. When I am struggling with a decision whether it's about packaging or marketing I contact the people I trust most and ask for their opinion. I then take all of what was said, consider all options and the final decision is made. Keep in mind the decisions are not made in a day it can take a week or 2 sometimes longer before all is finalized.
In creating my test panel this has given me the substantiating proof needed to launch my line with the credibility of a quality product and the personal liability of being a true and sincere entrepreneur with integrity in all that I do. All of my hard work, research, and ideas have been rewarded with the help of others.
Enlist those that you trust to enrich the growth of your company. They will want to see you successful without riding on the wings of your hard work. Their commitment is always recognized with gratitude. As they say, "One hand washes the other"!

From Childhood Passion to Career Fulfillment

About 19 years ago, while working in the corporate world, I decided to go back to school to study natural healing arts. At that time, I enrolled in The Chicago School of Massage Therapy graduating as a CMT. During my studies we also learned about other natural healing arts. One in particular that was of great interest to me was Aromatherapy - I always loved nature even as a child. I decided to further my studies into aromatherapy and implement the art into my Massage Therapy practice.
When I decided to pursue the practice of Aromatherapy I contacted my Mother and told her of my plans. She was supportive and mentioned that she still has the first bottle of perfume I made for her. I was shocked, surprised and elated that she would still cherish something I created 20 years prior. The memories came back - picturing myself sitting on our back porch smashing flowers in my tan colored bowl, adding water, and then straining into a Barbie bottle. Also, realizing at that time, the onset of my career and passion began at a very young age.
When I first started my practice(s) it was not in the mainstream of society - there was still a stigma attached. I would not allow this to overtake my passion and continued to practice. As years went by both Massage and Aromatherapy became recognized as important healing arts. They are now in the mainstream and have become traditional in healing.
Follow your childhood dreams to be fulfilled in life when choosing a career. I did, and look at where I am at today!

Hubris - Etymology: Greek hybris

While watching Monday night football, I heard a fascinating word, "Hubris", meaning exaggerated pride or self-confidence; arrogance.
In classical Greek ethical and religious thought, overweening presumption suggesting impious disregard of the limits governing human action in an orderly universe. It is the sin to which the great and gifted are most susceptible, and in Greek tragedy it is usually the hero's tragic flaw.
For such a small word the impact is quite vast. A hubris character flaw in relationships and work will only stop any future growth within that one might have. When misfortune happens will you be able to rise again without pride getting in one's way? Have integrity in all that you do - do not allow malice to play a role. Honesty, Integrity, Loyalty, and Truth, is what we all look for in someone or something. Apply the HILT and reach the acme of success.
